Federation of Cocoa Commerce Guidelines compliance for shipping cocoa beans

Cocoa beans Sensitive to moisture

  • Cocoa beans are grown in African and South American continent.
  • They are exported to European and Asian nations for processing.
  • This exposes cocoa bean shipments to harsh environmental conditions inside shipping containers.
  • Cocoa beans are a fragile and precious commodity.
  • A constant change in temperature and exposure to high humidity can influence quality of cocoa beans.
  • Maintaining a low level of moisture inside cargo container protects their distinct taste and odour.

VA PHARMA PACK CARGO DESICCANT BAGS absorb beyond this minimum requisite and are able to perform for long voyage period of upto 60 to 70 days.

Cocoa beans Sensitive to moisture

  • CARGO DESICCANT BAGS manufactured by VA PHARMA PACK are compliant with FCC guidelines for shipping cocoa beans.
  • The 2013 guidelines established by The Federation of Cocoa Commerce advocates the control of excess moisture and humidity inside cargo container with the use of Desiccant bags. The guideline distinctively employs the use of with minimum 65% calcium chloride. Hence, silica gel and other low absorbing desiccants are to be avoided.
  • VA PHARMA PACK manufactures 250-300% absorbing CARGO DESICCANT BAGS with gel formulation specifically designed to withstand high humidity condition at sea.
  • Our desiccant gel formulation provides high absorption per kg and decrease cost and increase affordability per shipment.
  • A leakage free high absorbing protection for your cocoa shipments.

Moisture reduction prerequisite for transporting cocoa beans

  • The FCC recommends of desiccant use is based on the amount of water absorption or moisture reduction required for cocoa beans to stay dry.
  • The two main factors that influence desiccant requirement are size of the container and the voyage time.
  • FCC implements a minimum of 20 liters of water / moisture reduction inside a 20 feet container and 40 liters of water / moisture reduction inside a 40 feet container to EU nations. For Asian countries, 40 liters of water / moisture reduction inside a 20 feet container and 60 liters of water / moisture inside a 40 feet container.
  • VA PHARMA PACK CARGO DESICCANT BAGS absorb beyond this minimum requisite and are able to perform for long voyage period of upto 60 to 70 days.
  • In some studies, CARGO DESICCANT BAGS performed about 280% absorption over 90 to 110 day periods.

Guidelines on where to install desiccants in a container

  • The FCC guidline suggest hanging and laying the desiccant bags on the wall and on top of the jute bags inside the container control moisture level in cocoa beans. VA PHARMA PACK provides hangers and hooks that can be easily fastened to the wall of the container and can be hung securely.
  • The bags can also be laid directly on top of the jute bags.
